Holiday Gift Drive for Girls

Posted by Becca Marcus at 24th November, 2010

Volunteer Party & Gift Wrapping Night

Tuesday, Decmeber 14th, 6 PM
The Service Fund’s Annual Holiday Gift Drive provides a brighter holiday season for young women (ages 12-17) facing violence in their lives – many of whom live in local shelters or transitional housing in the NYC area.

Download the Gift Drive flyer for Printing & Posting!

Three ways to participate in the Gift Drive:

1) Purchase or bring like-new items to the office for donation (you can also donate cash – as we try to buy the girls each a $10 gift card every year).
**Drop off hours are Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm, at our location (150 West 28th Street, Suite 304 @ 7th Ave) between November 29th and December 14th

Note: One organization we donate to, GEMS, has a wishlist registered at Target. You can either buy those items directly (make sure you let the store know to take the items off the list after your purchase them) OR get a clearer idea of what type of donations they are in most need of here:

There’s also a 2nd list for young women transitioning to independence:

OR go to www.target.com; gift registries and lists; and search for the organization GEMS.

2) Host a party, drinks, a gathering of friends/students/colleagues and ask them to bring a donation as “admission,” or you can post the flyer at your workplace and do your own collection.  After the party, bring the collected items to our office.

3) Post a flyer at local businesses, community centers, schools, etc. in your neighborhood. Ask them to post and encourage donations.  Make an agreement to pick up items and transport them to our office.  If you need a formal letter from NOW, we can create one for you. You should also be able to secure donations from companies directly by calling and asking them.  If you need more information on how, please speak Jean or Brielle at our office 212.627.9895 or send an email to brielle@nownyc.org

Keep us updated on your donation collection progress and your own plans to donate!
